5 Signs Your Living Room Furniture Needs to Be Replaced

Hibu Websites • Jan 18, 2022

For many homeowners, their home is like a castle. It is their safe haven and the place they like to relax and spend time with family and friends. Many people get trapped in a cycle of wanting to upgrade their furniture but being worried about doing so too soon. It takes money to keep up the look and feel of the home, but spending money frivolously is never a good idea either! So, how can you tell when your furniture has passed its prime, and it is time to hit the local home furniture store? Here are some things to watch out for to make this a bit easier.

Discolorations and Stains

Does your couch look a bit yellow despite a recent cleaning? Are the brighter tones not what they once were? Fabrics fade and discolor over time and even the best cleanings can only do so much after years of use and abuse.

Shifting and Compressed Padding

Does your couch or recliner not support you like once did? Has the padded been reduced to nothing or is it is all lumpy now? Upgrading to a new piece can help overcome issues with cushions and padding wearing down.

Excessive Creaks and Groans

Are you hearing lots of noises when you sit or shift on your furniture? A little noise is to be expected when you get up and down off of furniture, but excessive protesting from your couch can be a sign it's time for a replacement.

Threadbare Upholstery

Can you see the cushions and stuffing through the fabric on your favorite chair? Are threads and seams starting to unravel on the couch? Even the highest quality upholstery will start to fade and deteriorate and need an upgrade eventually.

Rips, Tears, and Damages

Are there obvious signs of major wear and tear on your furniture? Are you trying to sew and patch rips and holes in your couch or recliner? If so then you should visit your local home furniture store for an upgrade sooner rather than later.

The furniture used in many homes today unfortunately may no longer be as attractive, usable, or comfortable as it once was. In fact, according to the New York Post, as many as 30% of homeowners are looking for a new couch or another major piece of furniture this year. Finding a home furniture store to shop in can be a challenge, but an even bigger struggle for many homeowners is knowing when to replace their furniture with something newer.
